According to recent figures from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), fly-tipping is on the rise again, with the number of incidents up for the third year in a row. Councils across England reported 936,090 cases of fly-tipping in 2015-16, an increase of 4% on the previous year. The cost of clearing up the fly-tipped rubbish for councils is estimated at £49.8 million.

This timely symposium provides an invaluable opportunity for national and local authorities, the environmental sector, the police, private landowners, schools, businesses, third sector groups and other stakeholders to examine the latest developments and assess existing approaches to reducing fly-tipping and littering within our localities. The event will also identify and explore the next steps in tackling this issue across the country.

Delegates will:
~ Review the latest policy developments and examine the first Litter Strategy for England
~ Evaluate the implementation of the Fixed Penalty Notices and share lessons learned
~ Explore the role of the local authorities, the Environmental Agency, landowners, the police and other stakeholders in reducing litter   and fly-tipping in streets and highways
~ Develop strategies to strengthen cross-sector partnership working
~ Discuss ways to create a ‘green generation’ culture and consider the role for schools in educating children and young people
~ Share best practice and ideas on how to overcome the challenges posed by fly-tipping
~ Hear from colleagues on ways to raise awareness through local campaigns and the use of social media

There is an offer of a 20% early registration discount off the standard delegate rates (subject to type of organisation and terms and conditions) for bookings received by the 1st September 2017
