The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) is leading a new Interreg Europe project called PERFECT to encourage greater investment in green infrastructure across the continent.
In addition to the UK, PERFECT (Planning for Environmental and Resource eFficiency in European Cities and Towns) has six other partners from Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Slovakia and the Netherlands. All have specialisms in different aspects of green infrastructure, including climate change adaptation, transport, energy and health.
Interreg Europe helps regional and local governments across Europe to develop and deliver better policy.
PERFECT’s purpose, as described on its website, is to integrate the many benefits of green infrastructure into the planning and investment for the future of urban and rural areas. It goes on to say, it seeks to influence the policy-making process by raising awareness of the social, environmental and economic potential of green infrastructure.
It outlines its aims as to:
- Identify and analyse good practice in multi-use of green infrastructure
- Fully engage managing authorities on the socio-economic benefits of green infrastructure in order to influence new projects and improve governance of policy instruments
- Increase the professional capacity of key stakeholders in delivering new projects
- Develop action plans focusing on policy change to influence strategic investment in green infrastructure based on its multiple benefits.
TCPA has been collecting research to document the social, environmental and economic potential of green infrastructure. To see the latest research or to learn more about PERFECT, click here
